What is the difference between coaching and mentoring?

Mentoring is usually seen as imparting skills, information and perspective to a learner, while coaches assist people to find their own solutions instead of teaching them. A mentor tends to be an expert in his or her field while a coach is a change expert and the individual being coached remains the expert in his or her life.

Your coaching journey starts with an initial consultation with your coach to see whether you would like to work together. Integral to the process is whether there is ‘chemistry’ between you and your coach. Ideally, you need to have a good rapport with your coach and experience them as someone whose professionalism and abilities you respect.
